Seminar: Casilda Lasso de la Vega on “Measuring inequality: properties and new challenges”
13 Febbraio 2017 @ 13:00 - 14:00
On February 13, 2017, h. 13.00-14.00, Prof. Casilda Lasso de la Vega (University of the Basque Country, Bilbao, Spain) will give a talk on “Measuring inequality: properties and new challenges”.
This talk is devoted to introduce basic notions about inequality measures. In particular we will discuss the crucial axioms any inequality measure should satisfy, and we will introduce the well-known Gini coefficient, the Generalized Entropy family, and the Atkinson family.
We will emphasize the close connection between social welfare functions and ethical indices of inequality. In particular, we will show how inequality indices can be obtained from social welfare functions, and vice versa.
Finally, we will show the important role played by the Lorenz curve to provide robust rankings of distributions regardless the inequality measure we choose.
